I love NYC during the Holiday Season!
I look forward to celebrating with my family, friends and colleagues exchanging gifts and gatherings. My favorite tradition is ringing out the old year and dancing in the new year at a New Year’s Party!
NYC joyful energy comes alive as the neighborhood streets, buildings, and stores begin putting up their decorations of garland, lights, ornaments, trees, and poinsettias.
For me, taking a walk along the NYC festive streets or gift shopping in the holiday decorated stores brings a feeling of delight and excitement as I interact with smiling individuals celebrating their holiday.
At this time of the year, my challenge is what to give as a “gift.” I prefer giving the gift of myself in the following ways:
Giving of my time- example – visiting friends and family helping complete projects while enjoying their company and creating new memories.
Giving Kindness – example - helping a disabled friend make her favorite holiday recipes for a family dinner party at her home.
Bobby Herrer’s book “The Gift of Struggle” is perfect reading to reflect on during the season of giving gifts. He shares his personal story of “struggle experience” to support his belief “when you give the gift of kindness to someone who is struggling, this single act might alter the day or life of that person.”
Mr. Herrer’s, advice “for anyone with courage to do so is to make struggle your best friend – it’s uncomfortable, its’ the most honest and revealing measure of progress toward becoming you.” He noted, in reflecting on his life’s struggles, “each struggle gave him a gift.”
After reading “The Gift of Struggle” I decided to take Mr. Herrer’s advice and reflected on my life struggles. I too found each of my struggles brought a gift to my life.
What gifts are you giving?
Wishing you a Joyous Holiday Season &
A Happy, Healthy, & Prosperous New Year!
